Abstract:Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus which is first identified in sentinel monkey in Uganda in 1947. Since 2013, ZIKV has spread rapidly over 48 countries. More importantly, ZIKV infection could cause microcephaly in newborns and Guillain-Barré syndrome in adults. Therefore, it has triggered great concern worldwide. Surprisingly, ZIKV RNA could be detected in semen and persist in some infected men for more than 6 months after the onset of infection and transmitted sexually. These all indicated male reproductive tract might act as an important target for ZIKV. Hence, we review the recent advances regarding the relationship between ZIKV and male reproductive health for reference.
