Abstract:Getah virus (GETV) is a mosquito-borne virus that can cause livestock disease such as pigs and horses, and can also lead to human infection. At present, a total of about 70 strains of GETV have been isolated from mosquitoes, midges, pigs and foxes in least 15 provinces of China, Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Armigeres subalbatus mosquitoes are the main transmission vector. Recent studies have shown that the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) of GETV existed about 145 years and gradually evolved into four distinct evolutionary populations (Groups I, II, III and IV). Group I and II were the early isolated strains in Malaysia (1955) and Japan (1956) respectively, and the Group III included nearly all isolates from China and other countries since the 1960s as well as the Group IV has only recently been found Yunnan province of China and in the Far Eastern District of Russia. According to the spatial dynamics, Malaysia, Japan and Yunnan Province of China are the three main sources of GETV dispersal, while Yunnan Province is an important region for the origin of the GETV migration event, and also a source region for the GETV transmission cycle in provinces of inland China. In recent years, Getah virus disease epidemic has also been confirmed in pig herds in Hunan, Henan and Sichuan provinces of China and feedlot foxes in Shandong Province of China as well as specific antibody against GETV have been detected from sera of domestic animal, fever patients and healthy human in epidemic areas of GETV. These studies show that GETV is widely distributed in China, which is an important public health issue.
