Abstract:A simple enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) using monoclonal antibody(McAb) 1A3 and immunoserum(IMS)against mycobacterium bovis for the testing 19 mycobacterium reference strains, proved the specificity of McAb 1A3 and unspecificity of IMS against mycobacterium bovis. In the ELISA only 2 ×107 bacteria derived from early culture(3 weeks) were needed for McAb 1A3.The results of identification of 36 mycobacterium field isolates by microbiological means and by ELISA were compared; For the M.bovis, the sensitivity and specificity were both 100%.The ELISA described here proved to be useful in both well and modestly equipped laboratories and may replace the microbiological methed of identification of M. bovis.
