Abstract:To investigate the popularity and distribution of Euparagonimus cenocopiosus at Zhuji town,Nanxiong city of north Guangdong province, snails and crabs in the mountain creek at the investigation area were collected. The cercaria and metacercariae of Paragonimus were anatomized by conventional methods, and their categories were identified.Meanwhile, the stool egg-positive cats and dogs were anatomized and the adult worm and eggs of Paragonimus were detected. The staining preparations were prepared and used for comparison.Consequently,97 out of 132 anatomized crabs were found to be infected with metacercariae of E.cenocopiosus, and the crab species was identified as Sinopotamon pinheense. The positive detection rate of Paragonimus was 73.48%(97/132)and the intensity of infection was 7.43 metacercariae per crab and 0.31 metacercariae per gram of crab, with an infection index of 1.70.The positive rate of adult Paragonimus detected in the excrement of cats and dogs was 25.00%(6/24).All together,16 adult E.cenocopiosus were detected in the stool egg-positive cats and dogs anatomized. Our observation indicates that Zhuji town,Nanxiong city of north Guangdong province is proved to be a highly infectious focus of E.cenocopiosus and it is the first discovery so far.Its second intermediate host of Paragonimus is Sinopotamon pinheense crab and the reservoir hosts are cats and dogs.
