Abstract:To set up an animal model, and observe the life cycle, Sparganum mansoni were isolated from snake. Animal model of definitive host were set up by peroral infection of S. mansoni to cats. Animal model of intermediate host were set up by infection of coracidia to Cyclops, and procercoid to tadpoles. The whole life cycle process including egg incubation, infection of cats, cyclops, and tadpoles were observed. It was found that eggs of S.mansoni were found from fecal specimens of cats 12 days after the infection. Adult and eggs of S.mansoni were acquired by dissecting cat. Coracidia were found 12 d after incubating eggs at room temperature. Coracidia developed to procercoid 6 d after cyclops infection. S.mansoni was found in tadpoles 28 d after infection. In conclusion, animal model of definitive host and intermediate host of S.mansoni are successfully established. The whole life cycle process needs at lest 2 months, and the time of maturation in cat is 12 days.
