Abstract:The aim of the research was to study the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and distribution of resistance genes of the Staphylococcus isolated from swine in Fujian Province. A total of 196 isolates were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility to 18 antimicrobial agents by agar dilution method, and screened for 10 resistance genes by PCR, which were common in Staphylococcus. Results showed strains were susceptible to vancomycin, and had reduced susceptibility to linezolid and rifampicin. However, it was found high resistance to penicillin, tetracycline, erythromycin, ampicillin, tylosin, azithromycin, oxacillin and clindamycin, with resistance rates of 83.2%, 75.5%, 74.5%, 74.0%, 68.9%, 67.3%, 54.1% and 52.6%, respectively. Strains had showed intermediate level of resistance to tilmicosin, enrofloxacin, florfenicol, tiamulin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin and chloramphenicol, and the resistance rates as follows 48.5%, 41.8%, 36.2%, 32.1%, 30.1%, 27.6% and 25.5%. Among the 196 strains, 187 (95.4%) isolates were positive for resistance genes, and 9 types of resistance genes were found. The detection rates of resistance gene mecA was the highest (46.9%) and cfr was the lowest (3.1%). The other resistance genes as follows ermC(44.9%), ermB(38.3%), tetK(32.1%), fexA(25.5%), tetM(23.0%), tetL(21.9%) and ermA(11.7%) were detected in those strains. This research revealed that high rates of resistance to β-lactams, tetracyclines and macrolides in Staphylococcus isolated from Fujian Province, and the high prevalence of resistance gens conferring resistance to those antibiotics. Therefore, it should be avoided to use those drugs for treatment this disease.
