Abstract:The objective of this study was to analyze an outbreak of human brucellosis in Wuhua County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, and to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of brucellosis. Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the brucellosis epidemic in Wuhua County. Molecular biological methods were used to detect Brucella in blood and fresh goat milk samples. Type identification of isolated strains was performed on the basis of AMOS-PCR and serum agglutination testing. MLST technology was used to analyze the genetic relationships among the isolated strains. The Brucella Omp22 and 16S rRNA genes were detected in the blood and goat milk samples. A total of 14 strains of Brucella were isolated from the whole blood samples, all of which were Brucella melitensis type 3. The similarity among the 14 isolated strains and 11 standard strains ranged from 82.0% to 100.0%. The outbreak of human brucellosis was mainly caused by drinking fresh goat milk in Wuhua County. This study provides data that may aid in the prevention and control of brucellosis in Guangzhou.
