Abstract:To understand the distribution status and infectious situation of intermediate hosts in natural foci of angiostrongyliasis in northern Fujian, intermediate and paratenic hosts were collected in 10 counties/cities/districts in the area.Infection for Ⅲ stage larvae of A.cantonensis was detected by lung examination in apple snails, and by tissue homogenate in slugs, snails, and frogs.Rodents were dissected to detect the adult infection rate of A.cantonensis in vessels of hearts and lungs.Ⅲ stage larvae of A.cantonensis was detected in both intermediate and paratenic hosts, and the average positive rate of apple snails, slugs, snails, and frogs were 14.78%(482/3 262),28.76%(237/824),12.62%(41/325),and 20.08%(43/212),respectively.Among the four kinds of rodents captured in three counties/cities as Jian' ou,Pucheng, and Songxi, three of them were infected with A.cantonensis and with an infection rate of 13.39 percent on average.Rattus norvegicus had the highest infection rate of 18.06%,following by 6.12% for Rattus flavipectus.Detection rate was 91.25% in pulmonary artery, while only 8.75% in heart. The positive rate of fresh mouse droppings was 19.23%(10/52).It's indicated that north Fujian is the natural foci of A.cantonensis, and the potential hazards for this disease to health of local residents could not be ignored.
