Abstract:After tHe earthwdrms (Pheretima sp.) were injectde or contacted (by sprinkled the virus on the soil where earthworms kopt) with baby mice adopted FMDV type O,the virus was detected in earthworms up to the 8th day,but not the 14th day.Experimental results indicated that FMDV did not replicate in the earthworms. In spreading FMD,earthworm could act only as a mechanical carrier.Like other invertebrates, the earthworm's immunological system can not be complete but some immune reactions on non-self still exist. In this study, not before but after the earthworms contacted with baby mice adopted FMDV,their coelomic fluid contained an agglutinin (detected by IHA to the FMDV).Flies of Musca sp.and Chrysomyia Sp.after artificially infected with baby mice adopted FMDV by adding the virus to food, could carry FMDV at body surface, not body inside for a short time,i.e,less than six hours, and the amount of the virus they carried was small. However,it was considered that the flies still could be a mechanical carrier in spreading FMD.
