Genetic characteristics of Legionella pneumophila serotype 1 strains

Abstract：In order to determine the genetic characteristics of Legionella pneumophila serotype 1 (Lp1) strains isolated from cooling water within towers of central air conditioning in hotels in Nanchang city, six Lp isolates were identified as Lp1 by serological agglutination test and latex agglutination test. Then PCR was used to detect the special Legionella spp. 5SrRNA gene and Lp virulence mip gene. Sequencing based type (SBT) and pulsedfield gel electrophoresis (PFGE) were used in molecular typing. All strains were positive with 5SrRNA gene and mip gene. The SBT type of all six strains was ST1. However, the PFGE result showed difference between patterns of six strains, which could be divided into four PFGE patterns. Six Legionella pneumophila isolates from cooling water in towers in public places of central air conditioning systems in Nanchang City were genetic diversity.
