Abstract:To confirm the clinically suspected case of rabid pigs from one small hoggery in Guangdong province, the brain tissue samples including cerebrum, cerebellum and hippocampal gyrus were subjected to Giemsa stain and ?uorescent antibody test(FAT) and RT-PCR. The samples were inoculated to sucking mouse and adult mouse. The results indicated that the inclusion bodies and a lot of green focus can be found in hippocampal gyrus, a 424bp DNA fragement of rabies virus N gene can be detected from the brain tissues. Between 13 and 15 days postinfection, clinical signs of a rabies-like illness had developed in all inoculated mice. It be suggested that the pigs in the small hoggery were infected with rabies virus.
