Abstract:ABSTACT : To investigate the prevalence and antibiogram of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in healthy broilers , a total of 20 intestinal content samples were obtained from broilers sold in two markets in Luoyang between January and March 2011 . 9 samples(45%) were positive for P. aeruginosa and 11 isolates were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa using the following tests: oxidase , pyocyanin determination, gelatin liquefaction, growth at 42 ℃ and nitrate reduction. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing by the disk diffusion method was conducted for ceftazidime, carbenicillin, cefoperazone, cefepime, gentamicin, amikacin, tobramycin , chloramphenicol , tetracycline, norfloxacin, and ciprofloxacin. The results revealed that all the 11 isolates showed 7 resistance file patterns , high resistance to chloramphenicol and high sensitivity to ceftazidime. However , these isolates varied in their resitance to carbenicillin (40.6% resistance , 18.18% moderate sensitivity), cefoperazone (27.27% moderate sensitivity), cefepime (36.36% moderate sensitivity), gentamicin (54.55% resistance , 18.18% moderate sensitivity), Amikacin (54.55% resistance), tobramycin(54.55% resistance), tetracycline(54.55% resistance), norfloxacin(54.55% resistance) and ciprofloxacin(54.55% resistance). 6 isolates were multidrug resistant bacteria.
