Abstract:To explore the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics on fatal cases of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), the information of 16 fatal cases (case group) and 16 non-fatal cases (control group) of SFTS were analyzed statistically using case-control study. Results showed that the proportions of tick bites in case group and control group were 25.00% and 18.75%, and field work history were 75.00% and 81.25%, respectively. There was no statistical significance for the proportions of tick bites and field work history between two groups. The time interval from onset to death for case group averaged 10 days, and averaged 4 days from onset to diagnosis. There were statistical significances for time interval from onset to seeing doctor and days of hospitalization between two groups. About 62.5% of fatal case-patients had underlying diseases, which was higher than that in control group (25%) with statistical significance (P=0.035). The proportions of neurological symptoms in case group were significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). The ALT, AST, LDH, CK and BUN in case group were higher than those in control group. However, there was no statistical significance. It's suggested that patients with underlying diseases and neurological symptoms have higher death risk.
