Abstract:Patients with infectious diarrhea of 2013 were etiologically detected in this study to provide scientific basis for the confirmation and prevention of the cases of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli in Guiyang, China. A total of 257 samples of stool specimens of diarrheal patients were collected. Each stool specimen was cultured by streaking on MacConkey agar for isolating diarrheagenic Escherichia coli. Isolates were conducted with biochemical identification and virulence genes detection by multiplex PCR. The 31 diarrheagenic Escherichia coli strains were isolated from the total 257 specimens, accounting for 12.1%. Among the 31 diarrheagenic Escherichia coli strains, there were 11 EPEC strains with 1 typical EPEC strain and 10 atypical EPEC strains, 15 EAEC strains, 4 ETEC strains and 1 EIEC strain. EHEC were not detected. Result shows that EAEC and EPEC were the dominant bacteria type among diarrheagenic Escherichia coli, which spread mainly among infants aging younger than 3 and adults aging up to 18 in Guiyang. Multi-PCR methods play an important role in diagnosis of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli disease.
