Abstract:Through aligning the diversity of mitochondrial genome, especially the nad1 and cox1 nucleotide sequences of E. canadensis, recent development studies on genotyping and molecular phylogeny and variation of E. canadensis was summarized. Based on these data, the taxonomic status, nomenclature and evolutionary relationships of E. canadensis genotypes in the genus Echinococcus were determined. Also, advance and future direction of research on E. canadensis were discussed. This review will provide researchers and clinicians in this field with rich molecular epidemiological information or data, and lay theoretical foundation for molecular epidemiological investigations, warning and forecasting, and strategy formulation for comprehensive prevention and control of echinococcosis.
