Abstract:Zika virus (ZIKV) is an emerging arbovirus, and Aedes is the major vector of it. The manifestations of its infection include fever, arthralgia, rash, and other symptoms typical of arboviral infection. Recently, large outbreaks of Zika virus have occurred in several countries of Americas since 2015. In addition to manifestation of fever, arthralgia, rash, more and more evidence demonstrated that microcephaly,Guillain-Barre syndrome and meningoencephalitis are also assosiated with Zika virus infection. Moreover,ZIKV can be spread through sexual transmission. Thus, from the perspective of symptoms and the degree of prevalence, the modern Zika virus is considered a “novel virus” that is completely different from the Zika virus discovered in 1947. This article systematically reviewed the latest progress of studies related to ZIKV infection and put forward the idea that ZIKV and its infection poses a new challenge to arboviral diseases.
