Complete genome sequences analysis of influenza B Yamagata lineage viruses in Inner Mongolia, 2015-2018

Abstract:To investigate genetic characteristics of influenza B Yamagata lineage viruses in Inner Mongolia from 2015 to 2018, respiratory specimens were collected from influenza like illness cases and influenza viruses were isolated from them. The complete genomes were amplified by one step RT-PCR and sequences were analyzed via bioinformation. There was 97.7%-99.9% homology in nucleotides between the complete genomes of influenza B Yamagata lineage viral strains and the B/Phuket/3073/2013 vaccine strain. Antigenic drift and intra-lineage reassortant between HA gene from B Yamagata lineage and NA gene from B Victoria lineage were showed in B/Inner Mongolia/1200/2015 and B/Inner Mongolia/1178/2015. All the viral strains were sensitive to neuraminidase inhibitors. The antigen and genetic characteristics of influenza B Yamagata lineage viruses in Inner Mongolia were mutated gradually, several intra-lineage reassortant influenza B viruses showed up, and influenza vaccine could not provide protection to part of B Yamagata lineage virus infection.
