Abstract:The aim of this investigation is to compare and analyze the basic situation, citation, reference, communication and professional development of zoonotic pathogen biology-related journals in China. Using the data from the Citation Report of Chinese Scientific and Technology Journals (Core Edition, 2011-2017) and the Citation Database of China National Knowledge Infrastructure as the analytic basis under the restrict search conditions, the sponsors, start publication times, published papers and subject distribution of the published papers in the last decade as well as the impact factors, subject diffusion index, citation and reference to each other in the journals were analyzed. After screening and selection, eight journals including Chinese Journal of Zoonoses, Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitosis, Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control, Chinese Tropical Medicine, Journal of Tropical Medicine, Journal of Virology, Chinese Journal of Vector Biology and Control and Chinese Journal of Pathogen Biology, were qualified for subsequent analysis. In the eight journals, four were monthly while the other four bimonthly. Except of Chinese Tropical Medicine, the other seven journals were established for publication in the 1980s. In the recent ten years, the published papers in the eight journals mainly belong to Basic Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Biology, Preventive Medicine and Hygiene. In recent years, the impact factors have been increased in different degrees. In particular, the impact factors of Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitosis and Chinese Journal of Pathogen Biology have been elevated from 0.619 in 2012 to 0.979 and 0.580 in 2014 to 1.044, respectively. In 2012, the Citation Report of the Chinese Science and Technology Journals (Core Edition) presented a larger regulation in the subject classification of included core journals. Except of Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitosis, the subjects of other seven journals were changed which caused a bigger inflection point for their subject diffusion indexes. The whole-citation to each other was presented in five of the eight journals but the citation to each other was rare between the virological and parasitological journals. Each of the eight journals showed a higher self-citation rate than that from other journals. All the data lead to a conclusion that the zoonotic pathogen journals in China have a wide exchange but their development in general is relatively slow as well as the impact factors should be rationally understand for establishing a more comprehensive evaluation system.
