Epidemic characteristics and spatial and temporal distribution of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome in Weinan City, Shaanxi Province from 2012 to 2018

Abstract:To provide scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) in Weinan City. The epidemic data from 2012 to 2018 and the population information in 180 towns and townships were collected. The prevalence characteristics and spatial-temporal distribution in Weinan were analyzed by using descriptive epidemiology and spatial epidemiology methods combining with softwares of SaTScan9.4 and ArGis10.2, etc. From 2012 to 2018, there were a total of 2 211 cases of HFRS in Weinan, with an annual mean incidence of 6.37/100,000. The mortality rate was 0.02/100,000 and the case fatality rate was 0.32%.The incidence of HFRS decreased significantly, but from 2013 to 2018, the incidence showed a wave trend of rising every other year. The cases were mainly male between 40 and 69 years old, and their occupations were most farmers. The incidence of HFRS was obviously seasonal, with a large peak from November to January of the following year, a small peak from May to July, and sporadic cases occurred in other months. HFRS cases mainly distributed in Linwei District, Huazhou District and Huayin City in southwest Weinan. The first HFRS aggregation areas were Linwei District and Huazhou District from 2012 to 2015, Linwei District,Huazhou District and Huayin City in 2016,and Linwei District, Huazhou District, Huayin City and Pucheng County from 2017 to 2018, all of which take Linwei District as the aggregation center. The incidence of HFRS in Weinan City has a certain seasonality and population aggregation. The cases gathered in the Wei River basin and near the QinLing Mountains. In the past few years, the aggregation areas of HFRS in Weinan City has gradually expanded. Comprehensive measures including surveillance, health education, rodent control and immunization should be taken.
