Abstract:Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) is an obligate intracellular pathogen. Effector proteins are secreted into host cells through the type III secretion system (T3SS). T3SS effector proteins play important roles in Ct development and interaction with host cells, such as regulating the host cell actin cytoskeleton, subverting immune signaling pathways and controlling apoptosis in host cells. This article reviews recent advances in research on Chlamydia trachomatis T3SS effector proteins.
