Abstract:This study aimed to understand the epidemiological characteristics of cutaneous anthrax and to determine the detection rate of Bacillus anthracis in Ningxia from 2018 to 2019, to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of cutaneous anthrax in Ningxia. Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the three distribution rule of cutaneous anthrax in Ningxia from 2018 to 2019. Samples from suspected cases were collected for isolation and culture of B. anthracis and real-time PCR detection. A total of 45 cases with cutaneous anthrax were reported from 2018 to 2019, which mainly occurred in August (57.78%), and were distributed in 11 counties (50.00%), in which peasants were the main occupational group (58%). A total of 12 B. anthracis strains were isolated from 70 human specimens, and the total detection rate was 17.14%. The detection rate with real-time PCR was 64.29%, and the isolation rate in samples collected before and after antibiotic administration was 64.29%, a proportion significantly higher than that in samples collected after antibiotic administration (10.71%). The area covered by cutaneous anthrax in Ningxia is relatively broad and has a low sporadic level. The detection rate of B. anthracis was low, and the positive detection rate in sampling before antibiotic administration was significantly higher than that after antibiotic administration. Real time PCR can be used for the auxiliary diagnosis of B. anthracis.
